Privacy policy

Last updated: October 1, 2026

Brian D. Smith, Esq. ("I", "me" or "my") respects your privacy. This policy explains what information I collect when you use this website, how I use it, and the choices you have. By using this website, you agree to the practices described here.

Submitting information through this website does not create an attorney-client relationship. Please don't include confidential, sensitive or time-sensitive details in any form, chat or email sent through the site. An attorney-client relationship begins only when you and I agree to it in writing.

1. Information I collect

Information you give me.

When you fill in a form, book a consultation, request the free guide, use the chat window or email me, I collect the details you provide, such as your name, email address, phone number and message.

Information collected automatically.

Like most websites, this site uses cookies and similar technologies to work properly and to help me understand how visitors use it. This may include your IP address, browser type, the pages you view and the links you click. I use Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use the site.

Advertising.

I use advertising pixels from Google and Meta (Facebook and Instagram). These let me show my ads to people who have visited this site and measure whether those ads are working. Google and Meta may collect information about your visit, such as the pages you view, under their own privacy policies.

2. How I use your information

I use the information you give me to respond to your enquiry, arrange your consultation, send the free guide and any follow-up emails you've asked for, and provide the legal services you request. I use automatically collected information to keep the site working, secure and easy to use, to understand which pages are most helpful, and to show and measure my advertising.

Email.

If you request the free guide, I'll send it to you along with occasional educational emails. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time.

3. Sharing your information

I do not sell, rent or trade your personal information.

I share information only with service providers who help me run this website and my practice, such as website hosting, scheduling, email, messaging, analytics and advertising providers. As described in section 1, Google and Meta may also collect information through their pixels on this site.

I may disclose information if required by law, such as in response to a subpoena or court order, or where I believe in good faith that disclosure is needed to prevent fraud or protect someone's safety or rights.

4. Cookies and your choices

You can accept or decline analytics and advertising cookies in the notice that appears on your first visit. You can also set your browser to refuse cookies or delete those already stored. Some parts of the site, such as forms, booking and chat, may not work properly without them.

You can also:

  • Opt out of Google Analytics with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on (tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout)
  • Manage the ads Google shows you in Google's Ads Settings (adssettings.google.com)
  • Manage the ads Meta shows you in your Facebook or Instagram ad preferences
  • Opt out of personalized advertising from many companies at www.aboutads.info

You may ask me to access, correct or delete the personal information you've given me, and you can unsubscribe from emails at any time.

5. Security and retention

I use reasonable safeguards, including encrypted (SSL) connections, to protect information submitted through this site. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, so please don't send confidential information through the website or by email.

I keep information for as long as I need it to respond to you, provide my services, and meet my legal and professional obligations.

6. Children

This website is not intended for children under 13, and I do not knowingly collect their personal information. If I learn that I have, I'll delete it.
